How does a Dove release work at a wedding?
First, we like to hear what you have planned for your wedding day. An on-site consultation
provides an opportunity to talk about those plans, see the site, and make recommendations
that will give you the effect you want. In most cases you'll have more than a few choices.
Your imagination and the safety of the birds is the only limit! |

I would love to have a Dove release, but I'm having a church wedding?
Perfect. A Dove release on the steps of the church or temple after the ceremony is a
beautiful and symbolic alternative to bird seed or rice. Most churches will no longer
allow the practice of throwing rice or bird seed for environmental reasons. |
 |
What happens to the Doves after they're released?
These amazing creatures are raised and trained to return to their home loft quickly
and safely upon release. |
 |
I'm planning an evening wedding around a Dove theme, but I've been told the birds
can be released only in daylight.
That's true. Releasing the doves after sunset does not always allow them to get home that
same night. However, you can still carry out your Dove theme by displaying our beautiful
cages with a pair of Doves at your wedding ceremony and/or reception site. The
birds are lovingly displayed in the entry way, near the head table, on the gift table, or
in any other safe location of your choice. |
 |
Where do the birds go once they are released?
Home. Our birds are white racing homers(pigeons). They are born with
a natural instinct that enables them to navigate their way home. By using both the sun
and the polarity of the earth(they know their north and south) along with their ability
to recongnize mountain ranges and landmarks. This in combination with extensive
training, enables them to make it safely back to their loft. |
 |
What is the difference between pigeons and Doves?
None. Pigeons are Doves. Doves are pigeons. The racing homer we see today is
descended from the rock Dove. This beautiful athlete in the sky has come about through
man's intervention using selective breeding over many thousands of years. |
 |
What do you mean when you say "The birds are trained to fly home?"
Here at Love Birds; we breed, raise, and train our birds. The training begins when the
Doves reach 12 weeks of age. They msut first become accustomed to the baskets
and special pigeon crates we use to transport and release them. Then they learn to
go through the 'bobs', a kind of light weight one way door into their loft. Now the road
work begins: Like any athlete their endurance must be built up. Although these
magnificent creatures, once trained, can fly from two hunfred to six hundred miles.
We like to fly our Doves no further than a fity mile distance to insure all make it home safely. |
 |
I've always thought these birds were dirty and carried diseases?
Nothing could be further from the truth. Our domestically raised birds pose no threat
to humans. They are vaccinated and wormed for diseases on a regualr schedule.
On the day of your special event, before the birds are loaded up, a large tub of water
is placed out so they can jump in and bathe(their favorite thing next to eating and flying). |
